With the sighting of the moon, the ninth month of Islamic calendar
Ramadan (Ramzan) has begun for Muslims. The central Ruet-e-Hilal
committee officially announced that the moon has been sighted Friday
evening.
According to committee convener Moulana Khadeer Ahmed Shah Ada-Ul-Aamri,
the moon was sighted in Mysore, Kirgaval and Bagepalli in the State.
During this month, Muslims around the world focus on prayer, charity, and religious devotion, fasting from dawn to dusk.
According to a time-table distributed in mosques across the city, sehri
(early morning meal) should conclude by 4.40 a.m. and the fast should be
broken at 6.50 p.m. on the first two days.
Confusion cleared
Hyderabad Bureau writes:
Till 8.30 p.m., there were no reports of the moon sighting from anywhere in the country.
With reports about the moon sighting in Mysore, Bangalore and Chennai
around 9.30 p.m., the committee, after initial confusion, reached a firm
decision.
