Tom Hardy is one of the hottest tickets in movies these days, if not THE hottest.
For his latest gig, the 35-year-old Londoner stars as super-villain Bane in Christopher Nolan's highly-anticipated The Dark Knight Rises.
A muscle-bound behemoth with a scary mask and a taste for mayhem, Bane is out to completely destroy Batman (Christian Bale) and his beloved Gotham City.
Take one look at Hardy in his Bane get-up and you feel for the poor, ol' broken-down Caped Crusader. Hasn't Bruce Wayne been through enough already?
Hardy - last seen in varied fare like Warrior, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and This Means War - has garnered massive acclaim for his roles on stage, screen and television, with his fire-breathing performance in the 2008 cult hit Bronson finally putting him over the top.
He followed that up with Nolan's 2010 blockbuster Inception - which turned him into a true star - and will next be seen inhabiting the titular role in Mad Max 4: Fury Road, which is set for a 2013 release.
At this point, what do you expect the Batman legacy to be and what do you want to leave with the audience?
There is a certain level of timelessness in all these characters really, the Batman comics go back to the 1930s.
It may be the only film I'll ever do of this level and it will be a part of Batman history. It's nice to check into the hotel, the Hotel Batman, and I'm not sure if I'm coming back or not, but it's amazing to be part of this family.
It's the second time that I have been a part of this great family (having worked with many of the same cast and crew from Inception), so it's all good and amazing. It really is the best!
